Undrun og uggur: Um smásagnasafnið Milli trjánna eftir Gyrði Elíasson

In his collection of short stories Milli trjánna (2009) the Icelandic author Gyrðir Elíasson again creates his distinctive literary world which is almost isolated from social reality. The characters’ minds and their interaction with mystical and magical phenomena are the focal point of this world. In this article I explore the main principle of the stories which is the interplay between rationality and fantasy. The interplay gives rise to various forms of fear, from uneasy premonitions to paralyzing dread. Elíasson also uses the principles of arthorror. Another major characteristic feature of his short stories is the intertextual play with numerous motifs of European literary and musical heritage. V tomto článku zkoumám určující princip celé sbírky, tj. napětí mezi racionalitou a fantasknem, plodící nejrůznější podoby strachu a bázně od neklidných předtuch až po paralyzující hrůzu. Elíasson přitom využívá i principy uměleckého hororu. Dalším výrazným rysem jeho povídek je intertextuální hra s četnými motivy moderního evropského literárního a hudebního dědictví.
