abstract
On the one hand, education today has a high societal relevance. On the other hand, schooling strengthens its exclusionary character. In this context, the paper discusses two di!erent theoretical perspectives on social reproduction and schooling: Bourdieu´s “theory of capital” and Willis´ “theory of cultural production”. One theory stresses the internalisation of the rightness of the dominant culture; the other theory underlines the creation of an alternative culture. The paper concludes with a three-stage-model, that combines both conceptions.
