Basic details

Our e-book production corresponds with the standardized processes of creation and distribution of printed publications. Karolinum’s selection currently includes more than 1,000 electronic books in Czech, English and German, including textbooks and monographs. You may also find texts intended for wider audiences, such as the Modern Czech Classics series which features important Czech literary works in English translation. We use social DRM which ensures the author’s protection and maximizes user comfort for readers. While the pdf format tends to be the most frequently used, we also provide the ePub and mobi formats for chosen titles. Karolinum Bookstore offers a 15% discount for purchasing e-books online.

Our distributors

The e-books are accessible globally through our Czech and foreign distributors. The distribution to the end user is ensured by our e-shop, Kosmas, Martinus, Bookport, Palmknihy, Google Books/Play, select English monographs are distributed via Amazon and the Apple Books Store. The distribution of e-books through scientific libraries is done in cooperation with EBSCO and ProQuest, select English titles are also distributed in cooperation with Gardners and CNPIEC.

How to place an order

After placing an item in the shopping cart, proceed in the usual way. The prices shown in the cart are final. For e-book purchases, it is always necessary to register. It is only possible to pay for an e-book order with a credit card. We accept Visa, Visa Electron, Eurocard/Mastercard and Maestro. The payment is redirected to the secured page of GP Webpay system which uses 3D-Secure technologies with certificates Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode. Karolinum’s online bookstore cannot access any credit card information used for purchases. More on credit card payments here. A mixed order of electronic and printed titles through e-shop will be automatically sorted into separate purchases in order to facilitate immediate download of e-books after the payment has been completed. After each successful order and credit card payment, you will receive three e-mail messages. The first message will contain a summary of your order, the second will have information about the download of e-books from the Karolinum Bookstore website and the third will have a tax document attached (in PDF). A binding order of e-books cannot be cancelled after the credit card payment has been processed.   

E-book download

After registering, click on your e-mail address in the right upper corner. An overview of your orders placed and purchased e-books will appear in the section My e-books. If any given book is also available in other than pdf format (ePub and mobi), this information will appear automatically with a link to download. (In such case, all three formats may be downloaded according to your need.)

Rights and obligations of the operator and the client

follow the Art. No. 40/1964 Coll., as amended, of the Civil Code.

Warranty claims

Personal data protection

All personal or company data provided by a client to the online shop operated by Karolinum Press, Charles University, Prague, are considered secret and protected according to the relevant regulations. The operator undertakes that he will not grant this data to any third party. The buyer has the right to erase all personal data from the client database, if no purchase has been made in the shop, based on a written request sent to the operator’s address. A client’s username and password must be stated in the request.
