Jaký Otec, takový Syn: Systematická důležitost a výzva nicejského ὁμοούσιος

The article shows that, although the origin and exact meaning of the central Nicene concept cannot be precisely determined and although its implementation in the creed was rather contingent, its importance and consequences are far-reaching. It became the heart and measure of Christian faith and theology, which, since Nicaea, cannot be but Trinitarian. Simultaneously, the ὁμοούσιος brings several theological challenges when thought radically through to the end. These challenges include the correction of the common use of “Son of God”, a radical conception of the death of God, which was controversial in the whole of Christian history, and the question of our knowledge of God. Herewith, it should be clear that Christian theology does not start with a metaphysical speculation about God, but rather, in a very concrete way, with the person of Jesus Christ.
