Abstract
This paper investigates the relationship between affectivity and phantasy in the theatrical experience from a phenomenological perspective. It is divided in two parts. The first part deals with Eugen Fink’s Fundamental phenomena of human existence, which describes the theatrical experience as intertwining of affectivity and phantasy: on one hand, it consists in the phantasy-consciousness of the world of play (Weltspiel); on other hand, it implies an affective openness to the world of play. The second part is devoted to Marc Richir’s phenomenology, which allows investigating deeper the intertwining between affectivity and phantasy in the theatrical experience. First of all, it shows that the phantasy- consciousness involved in the theatrical experience is a “perceptive” phantasy. It also allows rethinking the affective dimension of the theatrical experience as sentiment of sublime. The paper ends with a comparison between the phenomenological perspectives of Fink and Richir, focused on the concept of μίμησις and on the metaphor of earth shaking (Erschutterung).
