Peer Review Process

The anonymous peer review process is organized by the editorial board. After its initial evaluation by the editors, the manuscript is reviewed by two anonymous reviewers, who are experts in the manuscript subject area. At least one of these reviewers must be foreign. Reviewers cannot be members of the same department as the author of the manuscript.

All submissions must be made online. Contributions will only be considered on the understanding that they are not under review for another publication at the same time.

Speed of Peer Review

The editors are committed to a speedy (but rigorous) editorial and peer review process and will strive to meet the following deadlines:

– To inform the author(s) no later than 3 weeks after their initial submission whether or not the article has been accepted for the peer review process.

– To send the outcome of the peer review process to the author(s) no later than 3 months after their initial manuscript submission. Five possible outcomes of the review process include: accepted, minor revision, major revision, resubmit and reject.

Submissions

All manuscripts are to be sent to the following e-mail address:

eva.stefanova@natur.cuni.cz

Manuscripts should not normally exceed 8,000 words, including references, tables and figures, and must be written in English (American spelling). A short abstract (about 250 words) should immediately precede the introduction. The introduction should clearly indicate the nature of the problem addressed by the article and its position in the context of existing literature.

The authors should be consistent in using geographic (short) country names in their manuscripts, including Czechia, which has been the internationally recognized geographic (short) country name of the Czech Republic since 2016.

Submission Preparation Checklist

As part of the submission process, authors are required to check off their submission's compliance with all of the following items, and submissions may be returned to authors that do not adhere to these guidelines.

– All manuscripts are to be sent to the following e-mail address: eva.stefanova@natur.cuni.cz

– The submission has not been previously published, nor is it before another journal for consideration (or an explanation has been provided in Comments to the Editor).

– The submission contains:
* the manuscript in Microsoft Word (doc, docx format) without author name and figures
* archive file with all figures (zip)
* figures are in COLOUR and 300 DPI resolution

– Where available, DOI for the references have been provided.

– The text is single-spaced; uses a 12-point font; employs italics, rather than underlining (except with URL addresses, DOI); and all illustrations, figures are NOT placed within the text.

– The text adheres to the stylistic and bibliographic requirements outlined in the Author Guidelines.

– Suggest two independent reviewers (in Comments for the Editor): First name; Name; E-mail; Reviewing interests.

Author Guidelines

Manuscripts should be in the English language and should be printed in 12-point font, double-spaced. Do not justify the right margin. The total manuscripts should be fewer than thirty pages (8,000 words) long, including all components: text, references, illustrations and tables.

The authors should be consistent in using geographic (short) country names in their manuscripts, including Czechia, which has been the internationally recognized geographic (short) country name of the Czech Republic since 2016.

Title page. Title of the paper.

Abstract. Each article must have an abstract, in English only, summarizing the main findings and the scientific methods used to obtain them. The abstract should be between about 250 words and should be accompanied by not more than five key words which define the subject-matter.

Footnotes. Because footnotes are expensive and especially where lengthy are awkward to typeset, they should be brief and used sparingly. Footnotes should be typed double spaced at the bottom of the page.

Headings. A maximum of two levels may be used.

References. References should be cited in the text as follows: Johnston (1995); (Johnston 1995); (Johnston et al. 1995: 26–27); (Johnston 1992a, 1992b); (Johnston 1995; Smith 1991; Murphy 1985). The full references should be typed, double-spaced, on separate sheets at the end of the paper. They must include the names and initials of all the authors, the year of publication in parentheses, the full title of the article (or book), the standard abbreviated name of the journal, the volume number and pages, and for books, the publisher’s name and city of publication:

Huntington, S. P. (1993): The clash of civilizations? Foreign Affairs 72(3), 22–49.

Liu, J., Tang, C., Cheng, Z. (2013): The Two Main Mechanisms of Glacier Lake Outburst Flood in Tibet, China. Journal of Mountain Science 10(2), 239–248, http://dx.doi.org/10.1007/s11629-013-2517-8.

Tables. All tables should be numbered consecutively (Table 1, Table 2 …) in order in which they are referred to in the text. Tables are inserted into the text.

Figures and graphs. All figures and graphs should be saved as separate files in *tif, *jpg, *pct or *eps format. The approximate position of the figures in the text should be indicated in the typescript. Figures must be drawn to a standard suitable for direct reproduction (300 DPI). Captions should be typed double-spaced on a separate sheet and should not be placed with the artwork. All figures should be numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2...) in order in which they are referred to in the text.

Submission of Manuscripts. Manuscripts should be prepared in Microsoft Word. Submit all colour figures as separate files and resolution 300 DPI in zip format. No artwork (graphs, maps etc.) should be included in the text file. The maximum size for any one file is 20 MB.
