Anotace

This volume explores the changing face of Othering in the Czech and Slovak culture wars of the 2010s. From anti-Roma protests and anti-Muslim mobilisations to the rise of anti-gender politics, it examines how political actors construct different groups as threats to the nation, its values, and its way of life.
Bringing together perspectives from political science, philosophy, anthropology, and history, the volume traces the culturalisation of political conflict and the shifting boundaries of political belonging. It pays particular attention to the mainstreaming of far-right ideas and the ways exclusionary discourses move beyond the far right and into the political mainstream.
By placing Czech and Slovak cases in dialogue, the book offers a multidisciplinary account of Othering and the transformation of political conflict in contemporary Central Europe.
