Marginalia Historica is a peer-reviewed academic journal focused on the history of education, including dissemination of knowledge in general and institutional forms of education and schools in particular. It presents hitherto unpublished scholarly studies, book reviews, and event reports from the Czech lands within a Central European context. The journal was published between 1996 and 2004 by the Department of History and History Didactics of the Faculty of Education at Charles University first as an irregular anthology, with eight issues in total; following 2010, publication was resumed in a regular semi-annual period both in print and online.

abstract
The aim of this study is to demonstrate, through a concrete example, the possibilities of developing historical thinking in the field of historical perspectives for premodern history. The topic is grounded in subjectdidactic theory, implicitly linked to the major revision of the Czech National Curriculum (P. Seixas, the “Big Six,” and the domestic 4+1 model of historical thinking), as well as in recent historiography concerned with the study of mentality in the early modern period. The article compares Czech textbooks with a German textbook in terms of how they incorporate the concept of salvation into their interpretation of the Reformation – a key aspect of the period’s ways of thinking and relating to life and death. The final part presents a specific research lesson based on working with personal sources from the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries, which allows us to understand the significance of Christianity in the thinking of people in pre-modern times and the influence it had on their actions.
