summary
The book deals with the historiographically neglected relations between Czech society and Mexico from the year 1821, when this Latin-American country gained its independence, up until the beginning of World War Two. This is a period that was full of dramatic changes not only to both nations, but also to the world order as such. This volume is divided into several chapters which reflect these transformations. Special attention is devoted to an all-round overview, whether this is a case of diplomacy, economics or the issue of Czech emigration. An important part is the presentation of the personality of historian and diplomat Vlastimil Kybal, who, thanks to his personal friendship with President Lázaro Cárdenas, made an unprecedented contribution to the development of Czech-Mexican cooperation in the late 1930s.
