abstract
The paper presents the results of the radiocarbon dating of the animal skeletal remains from the rondel ditch (circular enclosure, Kreisgrabenanlage) and from the Late Neolithic settlement features (Stroked Pottery culture; around 5000–4400 cal. BC) at the Vchynice site (NW Bohemia). Following the introduction of the criteria regarding the selection of suitable features and the localisation of the samples taken from the infill, the interval data that had been obtained were interpreted and compared against those of the previously defined model of the internal chronological development of the settlement area. The new work identified certain factors that affect both the data collection and the actual dating. The results of the radiocarbon dating suggest the continuity of the use of the space in the cadastral area of Vchynice during the Late Neolithic and also explain the complex formation of the infill in the ditch of the rondel.
