abstract
This is a paper interpreting a reference on the kerchief money in the report by Ibrahim ibn Ya’qub, an Arabophone visitor of the Czech-speaking lands, of the sixties of the 10th century. A comparative study of the use of textile means of payment indicates the frequency of this custom east of our lands, especially along the so-called Silk Road. At least some available historical and archaeological evidence indicates that the “kerchief money” might have come to Bohemia and Moravia from the Silk-Road area.
