abstract

The article addresses three examples of deserted medieval mining complexes in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands in the context of the medieval mining industry. An important part in the interdisciplinary research was played by the natural-science analytical methods of geochemistry, dendrochronology and paleobotany. Current mining archaeology of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands relies on emergency research. Research and documentation of the subterranean mining works are lacking so far. Research of the surface buildings allows a very detailed study of the finishing technologies as well as of the infrastructure and logistics of mining and metallurgical equipment of the 13th century.
