PLZEŇSKÝ LÉKAŘSKÝ SBORNÍK
A multi-disciplinary medical journal publishing scientific works from theoretical and clinical fields with English summaries as well as works by foreign contributors in English. The chapter "Faculty Life" offers personal messages, reports on the faculty's activities in the past year and presents a complete bibliography of the medical faculty's departments and clinics in the year. The journal has been published since 1956.

70 let od tragického skonu mladé gymnastky na OH v Londýně

[70 years from the tragic death of young female gymnast during Olympic Games in London]

abstract

Eliška Misáková (1925–1948) was Czechoslovak gymnast, representing in sports gymnastics. She was a member of the national team, participating in the XIV-th Olympic Games in London in 1948. Due to health problems she was hospitalized in the Uxbridge Hospital shortly after arrival to London. Infantile poliomyelitis was diagnosed here. Young gymnast passed away because of the disease, incurable at that time. Despite of that Czechoslovak team won the competition and deserved one of six golden medals in the Games. Zdeněk Hornof, M.D., team doctor of the Olympic team looked after the sick gymnast in London. He later became head of the Department of Sports Medicine of the Medical Faculty of Charles University in Pilsen.
