Poznámky k teoretické a empirické problematice funkce sociální prestiže ve stratifikaci

In his introduction the author provides brief information on the general theoretical conception of stratification, especially on the functionalist and Marxist views. He considers the problem of the congruence and incongruence of status to be an outstanding issue in the theoretical analysis and methodology of empirical investigation. In the following part he makes a brief examination of the significance of social prestige in stratification, directing his comments to the question of the prestige accorded to social position. In this connection he describes research work on occupation prestige. The purpose of the article is to present a concise account of the social prestige concept as a factor in theoretical and empirical analysis of stratification. The author has set out to demonstrate that theoretical and empirical analysis are interrelated, being simply different aspects of and approaches to a common purpose – the scientific analysis of a given problem.
