abstract
Manuel González Prada’s work includes essays from the late 19th century and early 20th century which reveal various approaches and influences. Although his essays are usually associated with the idea of positivism and analytical study of society, they also show a significant influence of modernism as they reflect the conceptual transformation of the end of the century. The influence and confluence of the two streams, positivism and modernism, is visible when González Prada tries to fight against the established order with a scientific and rational attitude. Positivism is for him a way how to modernize the society. Therefore, González Prada is modern in every sense of the word, in his art, his thinking and his attitude towards life.
