abstract
This contribution introduces the first known Tibetan version of the Sutra on the Ten Kings (Shí wáng jīng), a Buddhist apocryphal text widely known in East Asia that contains instructions for the funeral and commemorative rituals. The Tibetan version is not a literal translation from the Chinese original, but incorporates parts not present in the Chinese versions. The Tibetan manuscript kept in the National Gallery in Prague is probably from the 19th century. The article questions whether this funeral ritual was known in Tibet, pointing to its possible spread in Kham and outside the educated elite of Buddhist monks.
