summary
This monograph is the first original Czech work which focuses on Paul of Tarsus at such a depth and extent. A learned man from the Jewish Diaspora and one of the most distinctive figures of early Christianity, Paul of Tarsus became one of the most ardent evangelists after meeting the resurrected Christ. It was thanks to him that the new faith succeeded in the pagan environment. Presenting the Hellenistic world of the time, the book follows Paul’s Jewish development and ideas before his conversion, attempts to reconstruct the basic chronology of his life, provides a detailed overview of Paul’s missionary activities and analyzes his literary activities as well as the fundamental themes of his theology. Striving to present a comprehensive, synthetic view of Paul’s personality, the work does not eschew problematic areas and controversial issues. It pays special attention to Paul’s view of the family and sexuality. This book is not intended merely for experts on the Bible and early church history, but also to a wider public and anyone interested in the outset of Christianity.
