summary
Following his book on Christology (The Perspective of Resurrection, 2022), the author now introduces the promised second volume, devoted to man. Being embedded in Christology, Gallus’s anthropology is based on a pneumatological premise – in his individuality and sociality, in his understanding of the world, of himself and of God, man lives and communicates within the sphere of action of the Holy Spirit. Man is defined as man standing before God, as God’s creation, as a creature living in the space of God’s presence.
And this is how man struggles to have good relationships and a good life – in his particular place, in his own particular body, adopting his particular perspective. For this reason, the book explores the basic characteristics of human life from a theological perspective – communication (with people and God), sin (and its consequences for relationships and structures), the foundations of ethics (i.e., creating a good life together before God), and the questions of freedom, its boundaries, and the eschatological perspective (the Last Judgement and eternity). The questions of corporeality, sexuality, and gender, or the relationship between man and artificial intelligence are also addressed.
The book has an ambitious goal to present contemporary theological anthropology in an informed conversation with other related disciplines. It aims to serve as a node by which the perspectives of other disciplines can be interconnected.
