This book represents the second, expanded and revised edition of the successful book by Jaroslav Kopáček and Jan Bednář (Karolinum Press, 2002). Compared to the first edition, this book places more emphasis on atmospheric phenomena related to prominent and extreme weather phenomena such as tropical cyclones. It includes a new chapter on phenomena related to significant atmospheric convection. Readers learn about the formation of electricity inside clouds, atmospheric discharges, lightning flashes, the structure of storm clouds, hail, tornados, and other similar phenomena. The book also covers some of the cardinal meteorological issues of the present day, including the greenhouse effect and climatic changes. The closing chapter, covering methods of weather forecast and their media presentations, has also been updated.
The text is complemented by over fifty illustrations.
