Důsledky modernity

Publishing this book in 1990, the prominent British sociologist Anthony Giddens made a noticeable entry into the contemporary debate on the era we live in. He does not ask himself academic questions about the relationship of modernity and postmodernity. Instead, he provides a highly theoretical yet reader-friendly analysis of real issues that we face in everyday life and in the political and public discourse – the issues of security and danger, trust and risk, the modified role of space and time, changes in the institutional structure of postmodern society, globalisation and its consequences, etc. Giddens formulates his original statements and discusses new topics, such as the issue of putting trust into abstract systems, the phenomenon of reflexivity, the relationship between trust and ontological security, and more.
