Vyvlastněný hlas

The authors trace the transformation of gender culture in Czech society between 1948 and 1989. They show that this process was always marked by both emancipatory and traditionalist tendencies. The authors also examine the ways in which various participants, including organisations, communities of experts, and individuals, contributed to the development of gender culture under state socialism throughout its entire duration, even though communist ideologues had expropriated the agenda of the pre-war Czech women’s movement.
