abstract

The article presents the use of a projective method, a collage, in a research focused on a successful university student. The goal of the research was to find out what is typical for a successful university student from students’ point of view. Student teams created collages on the theme “The life of a successful university student”. Workshop outcomes were analysed by the Atlas.ti software. Results showed that the main characteristics of a successful student are self-discipline (including time-management), overcoming obstacles and coping with failure, goal awareness and knowledge of possible ways of goal achieving, building and maintaining interpersonal relationships, intrinsic motivation and willingness to distinguish oneself from the average. None of the groups focused in the collage on a student’s preparation for school, exams or study of literature. No picture of a teacher or a library appeared in the collage. The collage method proved to be very useful as a starting point for a following discussion.
