abstract

This article is focused on the issue of shame viewed from different perspectives: psychological, philosophical, ethical, and religious. The starting point of the author’s considerations is his draft of the metaphysics of shame in the context of human existence, followed by an analysis of possible contexts in which shame can be identified as a psychological phenomenon. The author especially emphasizes the constitutive part of shame for the moral cultivation of personality as a basis of the understood and lived justice. After this the author comes to reasoning about the relationship between shame and guilt in the psychologically-ethical as well as in the legal respect. The whole text results in the reflection of the nature, different forms and the meaning of forgiveness.
