summary
This publication follows up on the author's previous study of the development of the Spanish language. Using many examples, it illustrates all of the major phonetic changes which have led to the emergence of modern Spanish. Its great advantage is its clarity, educational value and at the same time its complex, non-simplifying approach to the field.
The text aims to acquaint the reader in particular with the internal development of the Spanish language, specifically with the rules for the phonological changes during the different stages of its development. Based on the etymological knowledge, the reader should be able to recognize the modern Spanish counterparts of Latin words and forms and reconstruct their forms in the basic stages of development. General rules for the individual changes are arranged in tables; each table is followed by examples in the form of etymological analyses of word forms.
