The book was originally published in 1891 to commemorate the hundredth anniversary of the imperial and royal general hospital and opening of the surgical pavilion. Even in the present day it presents an non-omissible source of information on the history of surgery as a scientific field and a school subject. The text is interesting from both the specialist and historical point of view, as it contains information on the development of medical knowledge, on the status of surgery within medicine, on books and organization of studies.
The section containing charts presents for example a list of prominent surgeons, numbers, kinds and results of surgeries, numbers of students and passed exams, etc. Our edition is an exact reprint of original issue, which is practically unobtainable today.
