summary

On November 10 and 11, 2022, the Faculty of Arts and the Catholic Theological Faculty of Charles University in Prague organised an international conference titled The End of the Concert of Europe: Europe and the Austro-Hungarian monarchy at the end of the long 19th century, which offered various perspectives on events in the dual empire, located on the Danube river, during the final phase of its existence and on the situation in the Czech lands after 1918. The collective monograph presents the papers delivered at the conference, revised and arranged in a coherent order, supplemented by several additional texts.
Literary, social, and cultural reflections on this pivotal period not only offer a glimpse into the past but also provide a deeper understanding of how fundamental historical turning points influence human thought and creativity.
