summary
This book presents a collection of 21 articles on the linguistic issues of Czech grammar and the contemporary use of Czech from the viewpoint of general linguistics, sociolinguistics and methodology. It takes a new look, for instance, at the term language and communication register, standards and codification, compound words in Czech orthography, Czech in songs, the possessive genitive or so-called conditional, as well as the developmental tendencies towards deflectivization and analytization. It is stated that certain of the characteristics of “non-standard Czech” have been historically present in the Central Moravian interdialect and that it is unacceptable as a standard both sociologically and geographically.
