These teaching texts for undergraduate studies in health sciences include the traditional topics of hygiene and epidemiology as a biomedical basis for the primary prevention of diseases in a new conception. The epidemiology of the most important groups of diseases (cardiovascular, cancer, infectious diseases) and addictions (addictive substances), as well as the problems of epidemiological studies and vaccination, are treated for the needs of practice. Special chapters are devoted to the hygiene requirements for the operation of health care facilities and the risks of working in the health care sector.
The texts serve to increase awareness and understanding of the complex links between the natural and occupational environments and the potential development of diseases in individuals and in the population, with an emphasis on the application of knowledge in everyday health care practice.
