Svobodný čas: pedagogika volného času jako výchova ke svobodě

The collective monograph Free Time. Leisure education as an education towards freedom provides an insight into leisure education through a theological, specifically Christian, perspective on man. Man is not seen as an object but as a subject of possible accountability, including accountability before God. The free man acts responsibly and assumes responsibility for his freely chosen actions in a manner that is proportionate to his personal freedom. In order to grow and mature in his freedom, and thus to grow and mature in his personal responsibility, he needs education. Leisure education focuses on man’s actions in time and space, where human freedom and accountability are exercised; it seeks to nurture him in such a way that life in this time and environment is as human as possible. Apart from reflections on the phenomena of upbringing, humanity, and education, leisure education also proposes a variety of applicable methods. Among these, various approaches to contemplative behaviour are discussed and presented in this publication, according to each author’s field of interest. The emphasis is put on non-directive methods in line with leisure education.
