summary
The book To Be, to Know, and to Love: Augustinian dialogue offers, in the form of a conversation, the opening of the thought world of one of the greatest thinkers, Aurelius Augustine. The aim, however, was not to create a kind of entertaining introduction to Augustine, but by way of thought-searching, questioning, and conversation with the real other You, to gradually experience the fruits of the conversation between the two authors, leading to a more and more substantial dialogue with the inner Teacher through whom Truth can enter this world. The reader can thus verify whether, through dialogue with a human partner, we learn to accept otherness and to discover new perspectives, whether the transformation that belongs to the essential possibility of human life is made possible. The book is written primarily for readers not yet familiar with Augustine’s life and work. It also asks for the essence of the phenomenon of what the ancient Greeks called paideia and what education is, meaning cultivation through dialogue, which opens us to freedom and responsibility.
