Volume 5 of Contemporary Sociology focuses on various theoretical approaches to social change. In contrast to all that is static, social change represents dynamics and discontinuity. It concerns social structures, cultural patterns, societies, their subsystems, organizations, institutions and groups. The book covers evolution theory, socio-cultural changes, power, revolution, formation of states, formation of national identity and democracy as well as changes in temporality, individualization, modernization, dependence theory, globalization, social movement and last but not least also methodological problems in the analysis of contemporary change.
