The book presents a survey of important theoretical trends, which make an impact on sociology of the beginning of the 21st century. It is intended for students as a part of their curriculum, and also for experts and a wider audience. Individual chapters cover the key figures of contemporary sociology, such as Immanuel Wallerstein, Zygmunt Bauman, Alvin Toffler, Niklas Luhmann, Richard Münch, Anthony Giddens, Manuel Castells, Ulrich Beck, Axel Honneth, Nancy Fraser, Amitai Etzioni. These sociologists' theories influence contemporary discussions on the character of modern world and often have, though not in all cases, also political connotations.
