This university textbook offers a comprehensive view of classical theoretical physics. It presents the natural laws of classical physics and emphasizes their elegance manifested in their mathematical and physical economy. The use of the variational principle serves as the unifying element of this book. The text covers mechanics, continuum mechanics, theory of relativity, theory of electromagnetic field and classical field theory. Each chapter includes many examples with detailed solutions as well as those that students are supposed to solve on their own. The basic information is commented on in the historical context, also briefly introducing the discoverers of the various laws and theories. The book is intended for basic courses of physics at natural science faculties; it can however also be used in doctoral-level study.
