Farmakognozie

This textbook focuses on pharmacognosy, a specific pharmaceutical discipline which studies medicinal drugs and excipients derived from natural sources. It offers a complex view of natural drugs, focusing on their origin, substances, effects and use in therapy. In addition to currently used drugs, it also covers those that played an important role in the history of the use of natural drugs and which are nowadays used to isolate substances, or which were replaced by more efficient drugs. These drugs are arranged according to the biogenetical origin of the main substances, and partially also according to their effects and use. The scholars also took into consideration the most recent issue of the Czech Pharmacopoiea of 2009 and its addenda as well as the changes in the phylogenetic classification of plants.
