summary
Over the past decade, the Republic of Ireland underwent an economic crisis and there was major turbulence on the Irish political scene as well as in relations between Ireland and the European Union. At the same time, however, the situation on the other side of the Republic of Ireland’s northern border gradually calmed down, although the return of instability in Northern Ireland, which had been affecting the region for many decades, remained a threat. Ivo Šlosarčík’s book Ireland and Crisis. Politics and Economy of the Republic of Ireland in 2008–2014 and Their European Context outlines the roots and development of the four Irish crises (economic, political, concerning integration and Northern Ireland) and presents the role of the European Union in their resolution.
