summary

Participation in sports events does not always have to take the form of personal involvement, since for many the passive consumption of sports as spectators of sporting events plays an equally important role in their lives. The history of sports spectatorship is similar to that of active sports and has represented a significant part of entertainment for the masses. The result of this was the increasing importance of spectatorship as a social phenomenon and the accompanying severity of spectators' reactions.
The scholars in the presented book discuss the issue of sports spectatorship in the Czech Republic and present the results of several years of intensive research on the sports with the widest audience bases. They combine the sociological perspective, which documents the links between spectatorship and phenomena in all parts of society, with that of social psychology, which emphasizes the cohesion of certain aspects of the observed phenomenon with the nearest social environment of the sports spectators. Given the continuing globalization of sports, the knowledge presented in the book take on a wider perspective, often crossing the borders of individual states and can be of use in influencing the actual situation in sports.
