summary
This collection of papers, On Czech Verse, presents a summary of Květa Sgallová’s long-term scholarly orientation. Rooted in the structuralist tradition, Sgallová has employed modern methods in verse research since the beginning of her scholarly work. The collection includes papers on new approaches as well as on results achieved through them, as part of research headed by Professor Miroslav Červenka. As most of her texts could not be published in the Czech scholarly environment during the normalization period, they were published in Warsaw as part of international verse research. This concerns particularly the works she compiled in cooperation with Professor Červenka.
Her essays focus on general issues of verse composition, verse structure during the National Revival period and in the 2nd half of the 19th century as well as questions on the rhyme theory and practice in Czech poetry.
