summary
A collection of studies and essays by Czech and Slovak authors devoted to the work of painter, graphic designer, illustrator, and sculptor Miloš Ševčík (1939–2007). Based on their focus, the texts are classified into three groups: art history (Adam Hnojil, Dušan Brozman, Ivan Neumann, Jolana Pastor), aesthetics (Peter Michalovič, Marian Zervan, Vlastimil Zuska, Miloš Ševčík Jr.), and memoirs (Václav Sokol). The collection presents Ševčík’s work in relevant artistic and intellectual contexts and highlights his specific role in the development of Czech fine arts in the second half of the 20th century. The texts also examine Ševčík’s work in the changing landscape of 20th-century European art. The studies and essays analyse all aspects of Ševčík’s artistic work, including his graphic art, paintings, drawings, and sculptures. The book also features a rich collection of illustrations documenting the development of Ševčík’s work in all the artistic techniques he used and throughout all periods of his career, from figure drawing to semi-abstract art.
