The publication is the work of students and colleagues of Jan P. Kučera, who spent thirty years working at the Department of Political Science of the Faculty of Social Sciences, Charles University. The book therefore includes texts dealing with the issues that Associate Prof. Kučera focused on in his lectures and research activities. These include studies by M. Skovajsa and J. Dopieralla on Richard Wagner and analyses related to Czech history, such as the works on the Czech fate by D. Brabec and on political partisanship in the Czech lands before 1918 by J. Stauber. Those interested in Czech history of the 20th century will also find a text on T. G. Masaryk’s contact with Willa Cather by P. Just and a comprehensive study by V. Smetana describing the presence of the Red Army in Czechoslovakia in 1945. An analysis of the formation of Central European identity by L. Cabada and a study of contemporary Russian intelligence by M. Romancov are also included in the publication. There is also a reflection on the concept of a free society by K. B. Müller, or reflections on the ideological anchoring of fascism by J. Charvát, complemented by a “philosophical-areological” literary reflection by J. Mlejnek. Topics related to France (a paper on the national identity of Nice by M. Perottin) or the study of the “world influence” of the Welsh by B. Říchová are not left behind either. The publication concludes with a political-geographical analysis of the most popular global sport – football – by M. Riegel and B. Doboš.
