summary
The publication Neurorehabilitation is valuable for its broad scope. The first three chapters, written by eminent Czech neurologist and kinesiologist František Véle, concern the understanding of movement, communication with the patient and the prerequisites for a successful outcome of the neurorehabilitation process. The foundation of the book is a text devoted to current trends in rehabilitation by a team of contemporary authors. It summarises the current recommendations of the World Health Organization and examines the International Classification of Functioning, Disability and Health (ICF). The book also contemplates the philosophical aspects of the therapeutic approach. It presents the basic categories of physiotherapy interventions and describes in detail the principles and key therapeutic elements of these interventions. It deals with the neurophysiological mechanisms of physiotherapy – the possibilities of neuroplasticity and neuromodulation. Detailed attention is devoted to breathing and pain issues. The text concludes with a discussion of organisation, health legislation, and reimbursement of health services.
