Transnacionální poetika

The image of poetry as a culturally homogeneous and purely national phenomenon is not sustainable, and Jahan Ramazani, professor of English Literature at the University of Virginia, shows that cross-border exchange and intercultural influences are among the chief motors of poetic development in the 20th and 21st centuries. He reexamines a wide array of poets from Eliot, Yeats and Langston Hughes to Elizabeth Bishop, and Lorna Goodison, and Agha Shahid Ali, and reveals the ways in which modern and contemporary poetry in English transcends national borders, creates poetic connections and enables dialogue not merely between nations, but at the global level also between the hemispheres.
