summary

Low self-reflection ability, demonstrated by specific changes in the behaviour of hearing-impaired people, has an equally destructive effect on the process of their socialization as does their insufficient communication competence, which is usually in the focus of the special-education methodology.
The author's experience in the field of education for the hearing impaired led him to formulate questions and doubts about the methodology and theory of education for the hearing impaired and the main theme of his research presented in this publication became self-reflection. Based on research results, he focuses on creating principles for educational work in the field of self-reflection of hearing-impaired children, which can serve as the foundation for creating specific educational methods and approaches. This work can be considered a source for further activities in the field of theory, for practical output usable directly in the families with hearing-impaired children, in schools focusing on children with special education needs and disabilities and last but not least also a topic for the preparation of the future teachers – specialists in the field at the faculties of education.
