Writing this book of newly adapted national legends and tales of Bohemia and Moravia, the author has taken an utterly different view than the older interpretations by Alois Jirásek, deeply rooted in the minds of most Czech people since the 19th century. Emphasizing the ethical content of each story, Professor Piťha gives them such generalizing names as "O vlasti" ("On Homeland"), "O zákonech" ("On Laws"), "O naději" ("On Hope"), "O pokoře" ("On Submission"). The tales thus bring mythical and symbolical messages to modern readers. An integral part of the volume are full-colour illustrations by Jiří Anderle.
