summary

Training for sports in a naturally hypoxic environment is a highly discussed issue. However, in spite of numerous studies, there are still some areas where new research can make the training process more effective at higher altitudes, as well as for lower altitudes – for example, changes in the emotional states of athletes as a response to training in hypoxic conditions, which is discussed in this monograph.
The theoretical part of the thesis deals with sports training in hypoxic and normoxic conditions, describes possible tools for monitoring training and analyzes mood changes that occur during training. The practical part of the monograph is the result of research focused on the mood changes of top endurance runners, which was took place in training camps located in hypoxic conditions. The work also includes case reports in which the analysis of the training documentation of athletes, heart rate measurements and biochemical blood tests were used. The POMS questionnaire was used for measuring moods and the results of the research show statistically significant changes in some factors of this questionnaire.
