summary
Professor Jarmila Panevová, a leading Czech linguist, presents and summarizes her life-long scientific work in this volume of selected papers. These contributions, which she has written over a span of more than fifty years of her work in linguistics, have been scattered in many different journals and collections, only partly being included in her synthetic works. To present her ideological development and her research interests, she selected 25 papers, written in Czech, which focus on four topics: I. Studies in Morphological Semantics, II. General Questions in Syntax, III. Questions in Valency, and IV. Questions on Reflectivity, Reciprocity, Co-Reference and Control.
Panevová references her cooperation with Petr Sgall, her teacher and close collaborator, who significantly influenced her linguistic development. He also created the theoretical framework for dependence and multi-layer description of language, the functional generative description, that the scholar’s contributions published in this volume develop.
