summary

In her book, the author presents the development of female Italian writers from the second half of the 19th century, when women started to make the first shy steps in the field of literature, which had been for long centuries an almost exclusive domain of men, until today, when the ratio between male and female writers is more-or-less equal and many female authors have surpassed male authors as to the number of sold copies. At the same time it seeks the answer to the question whether there is an inner connection between the work of individual authors, whether there are liaisons between individual works, whether modern women's literature in Italy has a privileged style, privileged topics or genres. The author pays special attention to the most prominent representatives of Italian women's fiction such as Matilde Serao, Grazia Delledda, Natalia Ginzburg, Anna Maria Ortese or Elsa Morant.
