In the first half of the 20th century, goods from the city of Jablonec (glass, metal, and plastic jewellery, as well as small glass products) underwent the most dynamic phase of their history as a result of political upheavals, dependence on foreign markets and the nature of the product range. The highly profitable industry, unrivalled in the world in terms of the variety of products offered, brought the state considerable foreign exchange profits. The book maps the export of Jablonec goods, tracing both the general historical development of the industry and the interaction between production and export, including the reactions of those involved in the trade to crisis situations. It pays considerable attention to exporters as a specific group of entrepreneurs and presents their collective biography.
