summary
Mad about Prague
Memoirs by an important architect and urban planner offer an insight into the story of architecture in Prague in the dramatic 20th century. Jiří Novotný (1911?2000) belonged to the generation which lived in the period following the creative 20s and 30s (Cubism, Functionalism) but whose creativity was repressed by the communist regime. The book gives accounts of communist style ?architecture? e.g. the Stalin Memorial and others, but also pays attention to the architectural projects of high standard, unfortunately neglected today.
