summary

Back to the sounds as such! That could be a simple way of summarising the aims of sono-phenomenology as presented in this book. It comes to terms with the fact that phenomenology has not paid enough attention to sounds. This also requires a new articulation of the phenomenological approach to experience in general. Sono-phenomenology thus wants to learn from sounds. In dialogue with sound studies, it takes note of how sounds primarily establish sound environments and describes their topology. It asks what the ambient nature of these environments consists in and to what extent the experience of them is immersive. The book also includes an extensive phenomenological account of the experience of listening to music with headphones.
