summary
Religiousness in the Czech Republic has been developing dynamically and the current religious scene is so diversified that it is not easy to understand. The Encyclopaedia of Small Christian Denominations in the Czech Republic focuses on one of its fastest growing, yet little known segments. The book presents an overview of twenty-seven registered Christian or Christianity-based denominations and religious communities in the Czech Republic, excluding the Roman Catholic Church, Czech Brethren Evangelical Church, Czechoslovak Hussite Church and the Silesian Evangelical Church. It provides information on their origin and historical development, including foreign sources and similar communities, on their religious character, statistical, geographical and basic historical information on individual communities and other religious bodies. The book also includes chapters on the typology of Christian denominations with special regard to the phenomenon of “evangelicalism,” the development of small Christian communities in the Czech Republic and their architecture over the past two centuries. The book also features complete data on creed as featured during censuses in 1880–2011 and other useful indexes.
